Full Moon in Aries: what has run its course may go

The myth of Helle & Phrixus

Saturday 26 September 2026, 6:49 pm CEST – Sun at 3° Libra, Moon at 3° Aries

There is a moment, usually late in the evening, when you already know something long before you admit it. It's the relationship you still call "complicated" when it's really just over, the coat with the broken zip you've worn for two winters because buying a new one would mean giving up the old one, the job that leaves you tired on Sunday evening before the week has even begun. You know all of it. You just haven't said it out loud yet, because the moment you speak it, it becomes real, and then you have to do something about it.

That exact moment, where knowing turns into speaking, is what this Full Moon in Aries brings. To understand why, it helps to go back to an old story that is rarely told as a ram's story, even though at its heart that is precisely what it is.

The ram that carries you across

Phrixus and Helle were two children trapped in a family that wanted to sacrifice them. Their stepmother had arranged everything so that there seemed to be no way out, and the net around them was slowly tightening. Then a ram with a golden fleece appeared, sent by their mother, and took them on its back, away from the place that was suffocating them. On the way, high above the sea, Helle lost her grip and fell. Phrixus did reach the far shore, sacrificed the ram and hung its golden fleece in a sacred grove, where it would later become the goal of Jason and his Argonauts.

What touches me in this story is that the ram itself disappears as soon as its work is done. It is the means, the courage, the leap, and never the destination. And it touches me just as much that something is lost during the crossing. Whoever lets go honestly rarely arrives whole; a part of you stays behind in the water, and in this story the sea is even named after it.

That is the whole meaning of the sign of Aries. Aries is the first step, the courage that asks for no proof, the force that says: now. When we think of that force, we usually think of beginnings, of new projects and fresh starts. But a Full Moon brings the light of a sign to its peak, and a peak is always also a completion. This Full Moon puts the courage of Aries in the service of an ending, and anyone who has ever done it knows that it takes just as much nerve to end something as to begin it. Often more.

What is happening in the sky today

That nerve takes a very concrete shape today. The Moon sits at 3° Aries, directly opposite the Sun at 3° Libra, and that axis, me versus us, is the underlying theme of every Full Moon in Aries. Where have you lost yourself in keeping the balance? Where have you said "yes" to keep the peace while your whole body was saying "no"? Those questions hang like a keynote beneath everything that follows.

What gives this Full Moon its particular colour is the path the Moon travels to get there and the path she takes afterwards. She moves in three steps, and together those three steps form a movement you will recognise in your own life.

First, the Moon moves away from Neptune. Neptune is the mist, the hope against better judgement, the soft "maybe it will still turn out differently" with which we keep a situation liveable long after it has become unliveable.

As long as that numbing layer is in place, you don't have to decide anything, and that is exactly why it is so seductive. The Moon separating from Neptune is the moment the mist lifts and you suddenly see how things really are. That can be sobering, even painful, like waking from a dream in which everything was still fine. But inside that same sobriety lies an enormous relief: you no longer have to pretend.

With that clarity in her luggage, the Moon becomes full. She stands directly opposite the Sun and everything that has been growing beneath the surface over the past two weeks comes into the light. What has run its course can no longer be smoothed over or postponed. Full Moons are always culminations, the moment ripe awareness drops, and because this time it drops in Aries, it drops fast, directly and without detours. You know it, and there is no way around it anymore.

And then, after the clarity and after the emotion, the Moon moves on to Saturn. Saturn does what Saturn always does: he makes it concrete. The insight becomes the resignation letter that actually gets written, the conversation that actually gets had, the boundary that actually gets drawn instead of discussed. Saturn asks for no drama and no grand gestures. He asks for a decision and the discipline to carry it, including on the days when it would be so much easier to step back into the mist.

If you lay those three steps side by side, Neptune, Full Moon, Saturn, you can see an entire therapy in miniature.

First let go of the illusion, then feel the truth fully, then take responsibility. Most people get stuck somewhere along the way: they see it, but don't quite let it in, or they feel it, but don't act. This Full Moon invites you to complete the whole movement. What is leaving was, in truth, already gone. The Full Moon simply makes it official.

Where does this Full Moon fall in your chart?

Where that movement plays out in your own life is written in your birth chart. Look at which house holds 3° Aries: that is where the light of this Full Moon falls, and that is where something may be brought to completion.

First house – This is about you, your body, the way you stand in the world. A self-image that no longer fits may be shed. Perhaps you've noticed for a while that you feel different from how you still present yourself, and it is time to bring the outside in line with the inside.

Second house – Money, possessions, self-worth. An expense, a subscription, a way of handling your resources that has been draining you for a long time. Or deeper: a belief about what you are worth that you inherited at home and never questioned. What you truly cherish and what you are only holding onto out of habit now clearly become two different things.

Third house – Communication, siblings, neighbours, everyday conversations. A conversation you've been putting off for months, a way of speaking, or of staying silent, that no longer works. Perhaps also a story you keep telling about yourself even though it hasn't been true for quite some time.

Fourth house – Home, family, your roots, your inner world. Something in your home or in your family pattern has run its course: a role you've played in the family since childhood, a plan to move that finally takes shape, or simply a cupboard you finally empty and that held far more than things.

Fifth house – Creativity, love, children, pleasure. A love story you kept prettier than it was, a creative project you won't let go of because you've already poured so much into it, or a way of having fun that actually exhausts you. What your heart really wants often lies beneath what your heart thinks it wants.

Sixth house – Work, health, daily routines. The job or the task that drains you, the habit that undermines your health while you keep excusing it. This Full Moon is excellent for ending a routine and replacing it with a small, concrete new one, because Saturn loves small, achievable steps.

Seventh house – Relationships, partnership, the other. Here the axis of this Full Moon hits hardest, with the Moon in your house of the other and the Sun in the house of yourself. A relationship, business or personal, in which the balance has long been lost. The question is no longer whether the other will change, but what you are still willing to carry.

Eighth house – Intimacy, shared resources, transformation, loss. Something you share with another, financially or emotionally, is due for revision. Or an old grief or an old fear you've carried for a long time. This house asks you to look honestly at where you are still giving your power away.

Ninth house – Beliefs, study, travel, worldview. A faith, a philosophy, a teacher or a course you have outgrown. It is confusing to notice that something which once gave you direction is now holding you back, but that is precisely the sign that you have grown.

Tenth house – Career, vocation, how you are seen. A position, a title, an ambition that really belonged to someone else and was never fully yours. Or the realisation that the road upward you've followed for years leads to a different summit than the one you want. Saturn is at home in this house, so the decision you make here will carry for a long time.

Eleventh house – Friends, networks, ideals, the future. A friendship that runs on shared history alone, a group you no longer belong to but still stay in, a dream for the future that hasn't lit up in a while when you think of it. What is over may leave with gratitude.

Twelfth house – The hidden, the unconscious, what you only know at night. Something you yourself don't fully realise has run its course. Be gentle with yourself here, because in this house the mist lifts most slowly. Pay attention to your dreams around this Full Moon, and to what you catch yourself thinking when no one is watching.

For reflection

Whichever house it is, the movement stays the same: the mist lifts, the truth becomes visible, and then it is up to you. So take a little time this evening, with a candle or simply a cup of tea at the kitchen table, and ask yourself these questions:

  • What do I already know, and have not yet said out loud?

  • Which hope am I holding onto because it is more familiar than the truth?

  • What would I do with the courage of a ram and the sobriety of Saturn?

  • What do I carry with me across the sea, and what may stay in the water?

What ends, ends so that space can open. That sounds like a cliché until you live it yourself. The ram carries you to the far shore, and what you do there is your story.
